General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Technical Writer - Submarine Sonar System to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to draft key business documents that support some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to compose and revise business materials for General Dynamics Mission Systems and its clients. Key Responsibilities
The Technical Writer will plan, outline and draft technical manuals and other publications that relate to General Dynamics Mission Systems systems operation and maintenance. It is also their responsibility to edit and format these documents. These writers will acquire and organize basic source material, including applicable specifications, engineering write-ups and drawing packages. As part of this process, employees will work with the engineering staff to research and interpret schematics, technical design specifications, interface designs and design diagrams.

The Technical Writer will develop Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) content data in Extensible Markup Language (XML) format using the S1000D standard and/or training curriculum support using MS Office or equivalent products.

  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers• changing business needs.
  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices.
  • The selected candidate may also develop graphics and implement design concepts from storyboards and most of the development work will be performed either on-site at a General Dynamics facility or as a contractor at another facility. All prospective candidates must have the clear understanding of technical manual structure and be familiar with DoD IETM and Tech Manual guidelines and processes.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of various engineering systems and the ability to further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to draft and edit business documents. The Technical Writer must have a bachelors degree in business administration, computer science, graphic design, XML publishing/development or related field, and two to five years of related experience. Applicants with a master's degree and zero to two years of related experience also qualify.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
