General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Deputy Program Manager Engineering - Auxiliary Systems Software to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to create and manage various General Dynamics Mission Systems and client technologies. Key Responsibilities
The Deputy Program Manager Engineering - Auxiliary Systems Software candidate will analyze, design, develop and test GDMS systems to ensure the integration of software, hardware, reliability, maintainability, safety and other requirements in the total engineering effort. Additional Responsibilities include formulating operational concepts; performing mission, functional, cost-benefit and risk analysis; selecting systems architecture; and preparing specifications for General Dynamics Mission Systems operating systems to ensure designs meet applicable security specifications. These individuals may also be asked to document security on both new and fielded information systems or provide accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features are considered and functioning properly.

Serving as the Deputy Program Manager Engineering - Auxiliary Systems Software you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide overall technical direction for programs. Participate and lead program technical decision making
  • Work with and across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to ensure successful program execution, including technical quality of the product, and on schedule/on budget performance
  • Support/Mentor IPT leads and ensure consistency in cross project execution and critical hand-offs
  • Work directly with the Program Manager (PM) and external customer to understand expectations, address technical and programmatic issues, and make recommendations related to program performance
  • Provide technical coordination and integration (schedule, handoffs) across adjacent concurrent programs via liaison with other PTMs and PMs
  • Support the PM in pursuit of additional/adjacent business opportunities
  • Support Customer Design Reviews, including formal engineering reviews, dry-runs and formal customer reviews
  • Support customer meetings (i.e. Working Groups, DDTs, and SARs)
  • Lead weekly System Engineering Integrated Team (SEIT) meetings and Risk Assessment meetings
  • Ensure program process compliance (both customer and internal GDMS process compliance)
  • Support Monthly Engineering Status Reviews (ESRs) with senior engineering management
  • Support Monthly Program Performance Reviews (PPRs) with Business Area Director

  • Ability to reach across multiple product development teams to ensure consistent direction, and effective coordination of development activities
  • Ability to support occasional travel (approximately 20%)
  • Ability to establish trust relationships with internal and external customers

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of various engineering systems and the ability to further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology.

The Deputy Program Manager Engineering - Auxiliary Systems Software position requires a bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or in a specialized area, field or the equivalent and at least eight to ten years of related work experience. Applicants with a master's degree and a minimum of six to eight years of related experience are also eligible.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
