Due to the continuous success of our ANZ operations, we currently have an exciting opportunity for an entry to mid-level Ecological Consultant to join our Victorian office. You will be part of a national team which includes botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and environmental scientists.
Your role will primarily be to undertake fieldwork and prepare reports to assist clients with planning approvals, environmental impact assessments, targeted threatened species surveys, ecological management plans, offset management plans and ecological monitoring.
The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • BSc or equivalent majoring in botany or ecology with a botanical focus.
  • Have 2-3 year's experience as a consultant or similar experience
  • Good plant identification skills with experience across the broader Melbourne metropolitan area, and preferably elsewhere in Victoria
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with applying relevant biodiversity legislation and policy (Commonwealth EPBC Act and State FFG Act, Permitted clearing of native vegetation - Biodiversity assessment guidelines, CaLP Act and relevant sections of Victorian planning schemes)
  • Demonstrated experience with field survey design, field data collection, mapping and use of survey guidelines for flora, and preferably some experience with fauna
  • Competency with software programs such as MS Word, Excel, Google Earth and other relevant software
  • Project management experience including meeting deadlines, tracking time and working within budgets
  • Willingness to assist others on projects where needed
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Well-developed communication and relationship building skills
  • Good understanding of OH&S responsibilities and obligations
  • Current driver license Desirable:
    • Experience with undertaking flora and/or fauna surveys in other areas within south-east Australia
  • Experience with undertaking habitat hectare assessments
  • Accredited native vegetation assessor with DELWP's Vegetation Quality Assessment Competency Check (VQACC)
  • Willingness to travel interstate for short periods of time, as needed
  • Experience in the assessment of biodiversity offsets and offset management plans
  • Experience with project proposal writing
  • Practical experience with bushland management, ecological restoration and input into sustainable ecological design principles for pragmatic outcomes
