Would you like to play a key role in shaping the future of the Fleet Services function within BAE Systems and the development of maritime platforms for the Royal Navy? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Manager at our site in Portsmouth.
As an Engineering Manager, you will be working within Fleet Services as part of the Engineering team that support the Royal Navy vessels. You will be responsible for a range of engineering activities involved in the design, development and support of these vessels. With future platforms coming into play such as the Type 26 and Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier and changes in the delivery to customers, this is a role that is central to the team.

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager will involve:
Maintaining all aspects of warship design, providing assurance to the Platform Duty Holder that the ship is safe to operate
Specifying technical requirements for design change, defining interfaces and assessing impacts to all aspects of Platform and Combat Systems
Ensuring all design change is subject to appropriately tailored technical reviews, designing appropriate tests & trials and proactively managing technical risks and opportunities
Determining the capability insertion programme for upgrades and enhancements, within planned budgets and planning future resource requirements
Providing approved technical information and advice to maintainers and operators; managing deviations and concessions from the design within the limits of your own delegation(s) and/ or seeking responses from the appropriate Authority in a timely manner
Conducting technical investigations, undertaking surveys and material assessments, producing technical reports and agreeing repair proposals
Producing management reports and managing service integrity
Your skills and qualifications as an Engineering Manager:
A strong technical engineering background in one of the following areas: mechanical systems, electrical systems, naval architecture or marine engineering
Experience working on complex projects in the marine industry or related industry
Good understanding of the design process
Degree qualified or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant engineering or marine discipline
Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartered status
