What is the purpose of the role?
The purpose of this role is to carry out the day to operation of the strategic trunk sewers. You will be required to perform a range of assigned activities including routine maintenance, investigating and safety cover. This will involve confined space working.
This is an exciting opportunity to get hands on and work in London's network of sewers, some of which dates back to the Victorian ages. There are opportunities to work on exciting new projects such as the 'Thames Tideway' Tunnel, meet key stakeholders and even take part in filming for TV programmes!
This role will involve:
Working within the Trunk Sewer Network in North London you will work in a team of up to five and will spend most of the time in the field.
Working in confined spaces and at height you will be given full training in order to become an expert in your area.
You will carry out the maintenance of underground assets.
You will carry out the operation of plant and equipment. You will carry out basic maintenance, fault-finding and cleaning within the sewers.
You will carry out surveys and safety cover for contractors.
This role will suit someone that has previously held a manual labouring role. You will be required to work outdoors all year around in underground assets, therefore it is essential that you are physically fit and prepared to work in a challenging environment on a daily basis. You must be willing to get stuck in, with a proactive approach to your work and demonstrate how you can positively contribute to a team. Drainage knowledge is preferred, and having a mechanical background would be advantageous for this role. You will have a valid UK driving licence, ideally with a LGV/HGV licence as well, although this is not essential. Within this post you will work on a Monday to Friday five week working pattern that will include nights one week in five, for which you receive a shift allowance.
This role is based at the Hammersmith Depot, North London and we are offering a salary between £20,000 - £25,000 depending on skills and experience.
