Sitec are currently looking to recruit a Seismic Technical Authority Engineer for a nuclear MoD establishment in Reading. The post is permanent and is paying competitively up to £40,470 - £55,330 per annum plus benefits, depending on experience.

Successful applicants will be required to be Security Cleared prior to appointment and must hold a British Passport and UK residency for the past 10 years or more to qualify.

A key member of the Engineering (Current Facilities) team within Site Directorate with responsibility for carrying out the duties of the Seismic Engineering Technical Authority as directed by the Civil, Structural Engineering & Architecture Lead Technical Authority (LTA CS&A).

Accountabilities & Responsibilities
* Member of the Engineering Design and Compliance Team
* Ensure delegated duties of the Facility Design Authority for the discipline as requested by LTA CS&A are carried out
* Ensure adequate monitoring of Seismic Engineering configuration changes on behalf of the Facility Design Authority
* Ensure Quality of Seismic Engineering and compliance with Project Process
* Ensure compliance, in all activities undertaken, with Company SQESH requirements
* Ensure duties of design in relation to CDM and other relevant regulations are executed
* To deliver work packages and design solutions that fully comply with SQESH, all applicable current and foreseeable forthcoming Legislation, British Standards and client Design Standards
* Competency Assessments in Seismic Engineering
* Verification of design compliance including all legal regulatory requirements for Seismic Engineering
* Undertake design checking and review
* Support knowledge base development within Civil & Structural Engineering
* Participate in RLI (Review, Learn & Improve) exercises within Civil & Structural discipline
* Maintain and promote high personal standards in Environment, Safety, Health, Security and Quality

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Relevant experience and knowledge within multi-disciplinary design and construction environments with associated project delivery disciplines
* Good technical and management skills including problem solving and decision making
* Fundamental understanding of civil/structural engineering principles and analytical techniques (essential)
* Able to apply theory and analysis to design problems. (essential)
* Fundamental understanding of safe working practices and applicable regulations and standards (essential)
* Aware of quality standards, processes and procedures (essential)
* Extensive experience of British Standards BS 6399, BS 5950, BS8110, BS5628 (essential)
* Experience of American Standards ACI 349, ACI 318, ASCE 4-98, ASCE 43-05 (essential)
* Understanding of European standards and their implementation (essential)
* Experience of the inspection and appraisal of existing structures (desirable)
* Familiarity with seismic design criteria and with codes/tools/manuals (essential)
* Understanding of influence of soil on seismic loading (essential)
* Understanding and use of spectra, damping, ductility etc (essential)
* Familiarity with explosive and blast design criteria (desirable)
* Familiarity with explosives regulations, JSP 482 (desirable)
* Familiarity with codes/tools/manuals such as PSADS, TM5-1300 (now UFC-3-340-02), TM 5-855-1 (now UFC-3-340-01) (desirable)
* Familiarity with standard office software; word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, presentations and databases (essential)
* Experience of software appropriate to civil and structural engineering including AutoCAD, MathCAD, TEDDS, STAAD (desirable)

* Essential - Accredited Bachelors degree with Honours in Civil/Structural Engineering
* Essential - Chartered Engineer
* Essential - Member of a relevant Institution (e.g. MICE or MIStructE)

Special Requirements
* Willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance necessary for the role
* Willing and able to work in designated areas
* Willing and able to work as an monitored radiation worker
* Full Driving licence
* Willing and able to travel within UK and abroad as required by individual tasks
