Lead Maintenance Engineer (4 week pattern, two weeks of days two weeks of nights)

Salary: 33,543.72 + 5% Night Shift, = 35,220.90 + 7½% pension

Location: Leamington, Warwickshire, Coventry, West Midlands

The Role:

• Maximising plant availability on a range of state of the art process and packing lines
• To ensure the safety and availability according to the objectives set by the management
• Ensure that you adhere to all company health and safety practices and work instructions
• Responsible for providing a comprehensive engineering service to production
• To provide best in class levels of support to Site Operations improving reliability and prioritising tasks according to the criticality of equipment
• Comply with all relevant administrative paperwork for the Engineering Department
• Actively participating in the organisation and housekeeping of the workshop
• Good communication skills between the Engineering department and all other departments
• Good communication with the senior engineer to prioritise workload and breakdowns
• Ensuring the smooth running and efficiency of the Engineering equipment


• Highly reactive to plant problems
• Contributes positively to the continuous improvement culture to identify improvements to plant and process
• Undertake ad hoc projects as required
• Ensuring the work area is clean and tidy and GMP is operated at all times and PPE is worn correctly
• Ensuring compliance with allergens policy, including the control of allergens on site
• Ensure all maintenance activities are documented as per the company procedures
• Attend and contribute to the site daily production/engineering meeting if required and complete daily report
• Use the Shires Pirana system to sign off completed work and raise new work orders
• Ability to be flexible and prioritise workload
• Adhere to the Food Safety and Quality Policy and technical procedures of the company
• Provide information to all other departments as and when required
• To ensure performance standards are met in line with KPI's
• A good communicator able to report on issues and make suggestions for improvements in person, by writing or email
• Be adaptable to new technologies and machinery
• Assess a situation and take the best form of corrective action whilst liaising with other members of the Engineering Department
• Assist other members of the Engineering Team with breakdowns, repairs as and when necessary
• Ensuring personal goals and objectives are met
• Train new Engineers and Apprentices
• Building effective cross functional interfaces, ensuring that the right level of service is provided
• Supporting NPD into the site, including product trials
• Any other duties as may reasonably be required of the job grade
• To install, maintain and repair electromechanical systems operating with low and medium voltage electricity under PLC control
• To install, diagnose fault and repair control instrumentation (e.g. level and conductivity probe, flow, pressure and temperature).
• In this highly automated factory, to diagnose faults on Allen Bradley/Schneider/SPX PLCs. Whilst there is no requirement to write programmes or HMI displays from scratch, there is a need to trace and rectify faults, adapt and save programmes and communicate changes effectively. To read ladder logic, input output lists and programmes
• To contribute to the development of preventative maintenance strategies, in running checks, condition-based monitoring and key performance indicators to maintain the highest levels of reliability
• Ensure "Quick Fix Repairs" are followed up with a permanent repair and all paperwork and procedures are followed


• To be contactable during your whole shift via Radio
• Ensure you escalate critical breakdowns to the Senior Engineer/ Engineering Manager after several attempts have been made to repair the breakdown (a maximum of 1 hour before escalating to Engineering Manager)
• To ensure engineering best practices are established and adopted within the site
• To ensure compliance with standards set by accrediting bodies and customers e.g. BRC
• Work closely with the site management team and 3rd party maintenance support to ensure good working relationships and improve efficiencies


Candidates will be able to demonstrate:
• High diagnostic skills in troubleshooting
• Most importantly a 'can do' attitude and a good communicator able to report on issues and make suggestions for improvements in person, by writing or email
• An engaged team player capable of communicating and working with members of teams from production, projects and technical departments
• Ability to build effective relationships
• Excellent Planning and Prioritising skills
• Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written
• A focus in safe working practices
