CNC Setter / Operator
Salary: GBP10 per hour - GBP11.50 per hour DOE + shift premium
Location: Whitstable
Hours: 37.5 (Rotating Double Days)
Working Hours:
Week 1: Monday to Friday 6am-2pm
Week 2: Monday to Thursday 2pm-10.30pm and Friday 2pm-7.30pm
Shift Allowance: 25%

Our client are a market leading, global, interconnect specialist and they are looking for a CNC Setter/Operator. They specialise in the design and manufacture of a diverse range of connectors and interconnect products for a highly demanding customer base in the Aerospace, Military and Industrial sectors.

Purpose of the role

Setting and operating CNC multi-tasking lathes to manufacture components from raw material (bar stock) for our internal assembly flow lines to the highest quality and on time

Duties and responsibilities

• Setting and operating CNC multi-tasking lathes
• Inspecting work produced using measuring equipment to Engineering drawings and reporting any quality defects to supervision
• Daily, weekly and monthly maintenance checks on machines, including maintaining good housekeeping standards and reporting any issues promptly to supervision
• Optimising efficiencies through reduced set-up and cycle times, plus tool life monitoring
• Deburring, cleaning, final inspection and completion of all traceability documentation
• Liaising with Team Leaders and Supervisors to ensure work is completed on time
• Adhering to Health and Safety procedures
• Carry out such other duties that may be reasonably requested.

Health and Safety responsibilities

• Take reasonable care for health, safety and the environment and others who may be affected by work activities, as well as co-operate on health and safety issues with Amphenol.
• Ensure that all employees, contractors and visitors comply with Amphenol Ltds Health & Safety Policy use Health and Safety equipment provided.


• Apprenticeship gained within a manufacturing environment
• HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering


• Practical, hands on experience CNC setting and operating CNC lathes, with a minimum of 3 axis
• Experience within a low batch component manufacturing industry
• Previous experience in cycle time reduction
• Previous experience in tool management and optimisation
• Experience working within a quality critical environment
• Use of Fanuc controlled CNC machines

Technical Knowledge

Ability to read and understand technical drawings, with the ability to work with minimal supervision
Lean and continuous improvement skills, including 5S

Skills and Competencies

• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
• Ability to work on multiple tasks at once and to tight deadlines
• Accuracy and attention to detail
