As Manager Materials Development you are responsible for managing the working activities of the Materials and Production Processes group (MPP) within our clients Innovation department in both Amsterdam and China. You will work with the team to facilitate the development and manufacturing of our clients iconic products by giving advice in selecting the best materials and production processes in the early stage of development.|
You will make sure that the team will lead research on new and exciting materials and production techniques for the client in line with the developed technology roadmap and provide them with the opportunity to develop these new technologies until they are proven and reliable for use. Together with your team you will validate materials and process selection and manage the specifications. You will also ensure that the production processes are well understood, defined and specified.
In this role you will work closely with our sourcing team in China on the selection of suppliers and provide the tools to the quality functions to control the material and process specifications of the suppliers.
Responsible Business is an important topic and a high ambition at our client. You and your team will be analyzing and sharing information on environmental and social impact of materials and processes as well as quality and general characteristics of materials and processes. As part of this ambition, your team will also engage with external strategic suppliers and knowledge institutes to jointly develop materials and processes to achieve Bugaboo's environmental ambitions.
Our client intends to work with internal expert groups around specific areas of interest. Your team will define and facilitate these groups and ensures efficient knowledge sharing and retention across project teams.
As manager you report to the COO/Technical Director and will become part of the management team of the Innovation department. You will work in close cooperation with the Chief Design Officer, product developers, quality team and commodity teams in both Amsterdam and China.
Master degree in materials science or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years management experience in an international product development environment.
Experience in collaborations with suppliers and knowledge institutes on materials research and development.
In-depth knowledge of sustainable and responsible products, production methods and principles.
Knowledge of product development processes towards mass-market products.
Proven knowledge and experience of Responsible Business aspects of materials and processes.
This role involves international travelling, approx. every other month.

Support the CDO and COO in driving the transformation towards sustainable and responsible products through research, co-development and strategic partnerships with suppliers and knowledge institutes.
Be the line manager of 4 MPP team members in Amsterdam and a coordinator for the expert groups.
Facilitate the MPP group members in gaining and developing knowledge on environmental and social impact materials and processes.
Responsible for developing and maintaining the materials development roadmaps per expertise.
Define and implement planning and work methodologies with the MPP team.
Set up and develop a knowledge management methodology in order to retain and enrich expert group expertise.
Actively work together with suppliers to improve their production processes towards international standards.
