Job Position: Project / Program Coordinator / Analyst

Department: Project Management Office (PMO) - Europe.

Job Status: Contract - 12 months

Job Description: A project management professional committed to delivering programs on-time and within budget by improving the effectiveness of project teams through the application of professionally recognised program and project management methods, techniques, and tools. The candidate will support the current European PMO project managers, provide general facilitation support, and will be given the opportunity to have direct project management accountability for a limited portfolio of smaller projects.

The project planner works in partnership with the tech lead/programme manager

The role is a staff position that requires the candidate to have good understanding of program and project management tools & processes. It is an entry level role for a Project Management professional, with the candidate expected to have extensive Project Management Office experience with limited exposure as a Project Manager.

Qualifications: Preferably degree qualified, but other relevant experience will be considered.

Experience: Considerable job-related experience in project / program management with experience in research project management or NPI is highly desirable

Must have strong interpersonal skills including excellent communication skills, strong meeting facilitation skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment.

Will have solid project management office experience, delivering planning, resource, and financial support to experienced Project Managers.

Must possess sound knowledge of project management software (MS Project required, Primavera highly desirable - preference will be given to candidates with operational experience in both MS Project and Primavera)

Familiarity with MS Office (Excel/Word/Powerpoint), Adobe Acrobat, and Web Publishing tools is expected. Good Excel skills are vital (complex formulas, linking multiple worksheets, pivot tables, graphs).

Will have solid project management office experience, delivering planning, resource, and financial support to experienced Project Managers.

Key skills

Ability to facilitate planning (including with people on the phone)

Ability to create manage, analyse and update plans including resource and financial loading

Expertise in Microsoft Project required

Primavera experience is desirable

Understanding of project financials

Excel - pivot table experience a plus, setting up Macros would also be a good advantage - to improve work efficiency and data consistency


Verbal communication - English - face to face and phone

Written communication - English

Attention to detail

Ability to present to a room clearly and confidently - ability to be the face of the company with external organisations

Integrity, honesty, team work

Understanding or prior experience of health and safety, intellectual property, contracts etc would all be beneficial but not required

Experience of leading projects will be expected for both and will be required to meet UK government customer requirements before appointment

Managing and coaching others

Responsibilities: Support Project / Programme managers in planning, project control, resource loading, finance, and risk management.

May provide facilitation for smaller project teams and provide support to control meetings. May lead chartering/planning sessions for smaller projects. May assist Project Managers with larger, more complex, chartering and/or planning sessions.

Capture and analyse project information including schedule updates (e.g. critical path, resource histograms, costs). Work with project team members to resolve logic errors, help explain changes due to updates, and update plan(s) according to actions taken by the project team to resolve schedule problems.

Create report packages for communicating project status to key stakeholders

Provide sole project management support for a limited number of smaller projects

Maintains program level issues/action logs, risk registers, scope change requests/logs, program schedules, and program cost tracking.

Work type: Projects will range from research projects to Mining project work to New product Introduction.

Travel: To partner locations- day trips.

Potential travel to Germany & various other locations where the work demands.

Hours: 8.30-4.45, 4.15 on Friday. 45 mins for lunch.

Some flexibility available and expected - can be working with China which may result in early mornings & can be working with the US resulting in later meetings.

Salary/Rate: £ Neg per hour
