What is the purpose of the role?
The purpose of this role will be to take the lead in business planning for our next regulatory business cycle. Key members of the Investment, Programme and Assurance team are responsible for ensuring we deliver against performance requirements at the correct value. The OPEX and Optimisation Lead will be responsible for facilitating balanced investment decisions at a sub-programme level by understanding actual and forecast cost projections, and the associated benefits of programmes of investment; set against a backdrop of asset performance and regulatory commitments. The role is to work closely with our delivery partners to understand and support delivery performance to provide options and recommendations to re-balance the programme periodically in line with corporate requirements.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an empowered team delivering an AMP6 investment programme of circa £3.6bn. To achieve our financial targets significant reductions in operational expenditure are planned through the delivery of new innovations and business change programmes. This role is the forefront ensuring these benefits are unlocked. Our delivery approach in AMP6 is to share risk and rewards under an alliance approach. Set against a revised regulatory framework this role is unique in being at the heart of this change. We are therefore seeking a motivated individual, able to make a constructive contribution to the team agenda and to thrive in a changing environment whilst retaining the authority and integrity of the central programme team.
This role will involve:
Understanding key drivers of above or below ground OPEX spend, and their contribution to delivering set performance commitments agreed with the regulator.
Unlocking programme blockers and key opportunities to facilitate the delivery of new innovative solutions and business change projects to deliver reductions in OPEX.
Understanding deliverer financial performance and benefits being realised at a sub-programme level, whilst working with planning departments to ensure the optimal balance of new initiatives are being generated for delivery and risks are understood
Optimising sub-programmes of work with recommendations of the best mix of cost, risk and performance.
Developing options to influence the balance of the investment programme to ensure internal and external targets are delivered, to support Programme Manager at budget and quarterly re-forecast process to re-evaluate investment priorities and mitigate risks.
Ensuring that current corporate governance is applied to all investment decisions.
We are seeking an individual with strong functional programme management skills, numerate, commercially astute, and able to handle large volumes of data efficiently. The ability to understand operational processes in order to influence appropriate investment recommendations is essential. The ability to form strong relationships and work effectively across different business areas is required so you must have a good level of influencing and excellent negotiating skills. Alongside this, the ability to interact and share ideas in a small team is crucial, whilst constantly looking for opportunities to improve reporting capability & understanding, in order to improve business performance. You must have the ability to apply and work within corporate governance framework, providing appropriate advice to the business. We are looking for someone who is a Graduate level or equivalent, with a relevant technical degree and/or membership of a professional body (CIMA, IAM or relevant equivalent preferred but not essential). Advanced Microsoft Office skills are essential. Ideally you will have used Microsoft Access and have experience of manipulating datasets.
These roles are based in Reading, Berkshire. We are offering salaries of up to £45,000, depending on skill and experience.
