Working as part of a specialist team responsible for defining the scope of railway based projects, you will be involved in the technical development of solutions which can be applied to facilitate the safe and efficient operation of our service.
Primarily you will work within the Depots Sub-Programme Team to manage the development and implementation of solutions. This will involve requirements capture, single option concept designs, detail designs and ensuring implementation of the solution for SUP Depots and associated Railway Infrastructure to support the introduction and efficient maintenance of the new 191 S Stock Trains on the Sub Surface Railway.
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the timely delivery of appropriate technical solutions that represent value for money and satisfy the defined requirements.
This role will take a systems view of engineering activities, ensuring configuration control of all assets, manage design and other documentation and ensure overall engineering solutions meets The SUP Programme Objectives.
Key Accountabilities
Responsible for complete packages of work from inception to completion of the detail designs and handover of the assets to the Delivery Team and End Users, including:
Leading the Engineering
Define and agree the Assurance Strategy
Develop and manage schedules
Ensure the requirements are fully defined and agreed by all stakeholders
Ensure a system engineering approach is adopted
Assess options considered within Feasibility Studies and recommend the solution to be taken forward into Concept Design
•Ensure Concept Designs and Detail Designs meet the requirements, align with the Depot Maintenance and Operational Strategies, and provide value for money
Provide technical advice to project teams within area of expertise
Ensure designs are compliance with applicable standards, specifications and procedures
Produce Engineering, Assurance and Project Management documents
Review, comment and approve Engineering, Assurance and Project Management documents
Provide regular progress reports

The PE-Depots will work for the Lead Project Engineer-Depots within a matrix organisation geared towards delivery.

Ealing Common and Upminster Depots Project Engineers
Ealing Common and Upminster Depots Project Managers
Ealing Common and Upminster Depots Senior Project Manager
Systems Heads of Discipline and their Discipline Engineers
Systems Asset Engineers
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Ability to analyse complex data, draw conclusions, produce reports and make recommendations to senior management
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally
Ability to build effective working relationships, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally and to influence
Ability to plan, implement and manage projects to deliver to time, budget and quality
Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective performance
Ability to analyse a problem from a systems perspective in order to understand the underlying issues and from there on develop and evaluate solutions to fix them
Degree level qualification in a related engineering discipline (BEng or MEng)
Chartered Engineer Status or qualifications leading to Chartered Status is desirable together with membership of an appropriate professional institution
Knowledge of safety legislation and operating rules and regulations
Knowledge of LUL business, its obligations and priorities
Knowledge of Rolling Stock Maintenance Practices, Depot Plant and Equipment, Railway Infrastructure, Depot Building Infrastructure, Building Services and good industry practice
•Knowledge of risk management principles
Understand the framework of the structured environment in which contractors are working
Awareness of contractual arrangements that apply
Wide experience in project engineering
Experience of managing designs and carrying out technical document review and analysis
A background in depots, mechanical, premises, civil or track engineering
Experience in the railway industry
