Reporting to the Execution Supervisor, within the Dewatering team your duties will include:
  • Ensure conformance to the BHP Billiton Charter, Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations;
  • Display an overriding commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental Responsibility and Sustainable Development;
  • Hydro monitoring ensuring bore compliance;
  • Working with your Supervisor to ensure collaboration with the Mining Production department in order to agree on a weekly maintenance schedule of work;
  • Monitoring the condition of Dewatering equipment by inspections, reviewing backlogs, KPI's and delays to ensure its capable to achieve water movements in line with the Mine Plan;
  • Ensuring area tooling and equipment required for Dewatering works are in working condition according to the manufacturers requirements and tested to the site requirements;
  • Ensuring accurate completion of documentation including drawings and technical reports as necessary
  • Understanding bore field layouts and processes
  • Root cause analysis and subsequent resolution of issues affecting equipment reliability;
  • Participate in team cost reviews and business improvement initiatives
  • Maintain a valid Pit Permit.

Skills and Experience

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:
  • HRWL - Forklift, Dogging, Rigging, Crane, VLC;
  • Accredited tickets for poly welding and chainsaw use;
  • Mechanical aptitude;
  • Proven extensive experience in the installation and removal of submersible pumps on Wellmaster rising main
  • Extensive experience in the Poly welding PE pipe up to 710 mm diameter;
  • "In field" experience with power generation, bore fields, water pumps and various civil earthmoving equipment
  • Experience in large scale open pit mining operations is preferred
  • Minimum of HR class drivers licence
  • A minimum of 12 months working in a Mine Dewatering team of comparable size and throughput.


In this residential role you will be based in Newman, Western Australia. You will be working at the closely located 'Mount Whaleback' mine site, which at more than five kilometres long and nearly 1.5 kilometres wide is the biggest single-pit open-cut iron ore mine in the world. The 7,000 strong population of Newman enjoys well-established town facilities including a newly revitalised town centre and sporting facilities. As a gateway to the Karijini national park, you will be in close proximity to spectacular gorges, water courses and stunningly unique landscapes. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
