Our client are a large Highways contractor based in Hertfordshire and they are looking for an additional Highways Engineer to join an expanding team. Our client are happy to consider candidates on a contract basis and are willing to look at a range of experience and would ideally be looking for an experienced Highways Engineer as well as a more junior candidate looking to gain experience and develop their career.

Previous exoerience with design of schemes or programmes of work in line with appropriate design standards

The Job
• Provision of design support to Discipline Team Leaders
• Detailed design of schemes or programmes of work in line with appropriate design standards
• Project management of schemes and work programmes with the Operations Hub
• Management of specialist off-site resources
• Working with the Whole Client Service to ensure an effective turnover of schemes, and that final designs are delivered to programme
• Completion of Construction Phase Pack
• Design support on Walk & Build schemes
• Supporting the District Service Agents with technical input into the Member casework required for Cat 3 schemes
• Degree qualified (Engineering or BSc) or equivalent experience
• Experience in highway engineering and relevant work type design, i.e. drainage, highways design, street lighting, traffic signals
• Broad experience in design delivery within the TMC/Civil Engineering sector (Not essential for Graduate Engineer role)
• Understanding of asset management and works programming
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, CAD and Project together with eServe MIS
• Knowledge of H&S legislation and CDM Regulations
• Experience of design production and technical report writing
• Ability to work in a dynamic manner to deliver in-year projects
• Ability to take longer term view of success of schemes and draw out benefits and value for money
• Strong organisational and time management skills to ensure effective delivery
• Ability and flexible attitude to work as part of a wider team including inspection team, construction staff, maintenance teams and planners
• Strong programme/project management techniques
• Good communication skills to support liaison with HCC and stakeholders
• Promote/observe Health and Safety standards – “lead by example”
