Position: Mainframe Programmer/ Developer Location: Downsview Toronto, ON Contract: Part-time basis 18 months Mainframe Programmer/Developers, to provide development services for client in the public sector, in order to maintain, support, and deliver applications that meet the business requirements and deliverable specifications Responsibilities / Assignment Deliverables: · Analysis leading to detailed information related to the current system logical and physical design and code structures during the concept phase of project · Analysis of technical database requirements leading to definition of changes required to support the new system. Interface and arrangements with the DBA/Data Management staff to progress these changes. · Creation of technical specifications in accordance with the clients standards. · Identification of problems/issues along with mitigation strategies · Regular status reports on progress made. · Effective knowledge transfer to clients I&IT Cluster staff at all stages of this assignment · Report status to and follow overall direction from the Project Manager and/or Lead Technical coordinator · Logical and physical design required to incorporate the required changes. · JAD sessions / walkthroughs to vet the design and obtain signoff of the technical specifications. · Development of new code and modification of existing code (online, batch and workstation) to implement the design as signed off in the technical specifications. · Interface with the mid-tier developers. · Ensure that the appropriate QA technical standards are incorporated into all artefacts and system code. · Preparation of test data and code unit testing. · Participation in integration testing including input to the integration test plan, setup of the test environment, creation of test data, execution of integration tests with the BA's and other developers, recording of test results and defect repair. · Planning and participation in code retrofit with other developers that are modifying the same LCS code in other projects. · Analysis of reported defects and corrections required to eliminate the defects. · Use of clients mandated management tools for code libraries; Skill Set Requirements for Mainframe Developers: · Experience in programming 10 years + and analysis · Experience in structured methodologies for the development, design, implementation and maintenance of applications · Experience in design, code, test, debug and document applications · Experience in the use of object and/or third generation language development tools · Experience with relational and hierarchical database technologies; such as: IMS DB, DB2, VSAM, and Oracle. · Experience in the use of information retrieval packages using query languages · Expert / Specialist skills in designing and developing Client/Server applications that interact with Mainframe applications in large integrated IMS DB/DC Full Function and FASTPATH, IMS/DB2/Relational co-existent environment. · Hands-on experience using XML (Mainframe - Mid-tier integration) · Expert experience in using TSO/ISPF, BTS, PLI, COBOL (Fujitsu COBOL), SQL/QMF. · Proven experience with Message Switching / Event Driven Architecture and Screen handling software (SCREENIO). · Proven experience with IBM 3270SNA communications and others such as Communication Manager II. · Proven experience with all stages of automated system implementation in large complex high volume Client/Server systems, with online Mainframe transactions · Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills; verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal and negotiation skills · Experience in Harvest and Endeavor tool · Demonstrable knowledge of clients applications, databases and systems; · Demonstrable knowledge and experience in working in accordance with policies and procedures of Public Service. Part Time Details:To establish a talented pool of pre-qualified, pre-selected resources to meet demand on an 'as needed' basis. A 2 week advance notice to the successful Vendor will be given for an available pre-screened selected consultant for an assignment. Consultants will be selected by strength based on the results of the evaluation and on an 'as available' basis.
