Responsibilities for this Position:

General Dynamics Global Imaging Technologies (GDGIT) is seeking a Production Operator II for their manufacturing site located in San Diego, CA.

This position will perform any combination of the tasks listed below to assemble electrical components, sub-assemblies, products, or systems. A Production Operator II will be able to demonstrate proficiency in 3 to 4 tasks and up to 2 tasks will be mastered. Will work under the supervision of the Group Supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Bonding - Applying cement to field blanks or field rings and bonding magnets to them
  • Connect/Soldering - The operator will connect lead wire to mag wire either by using a solder iron or dipping wires into solder pot
  • Final Assembly - Assembling sub-assemblies onto a top assembly per assembly specifications to make a complete top assembly
  • Forming - Using a fixture, the inserted coils of a stack are compressed
  • Insertion (Manual and Machine Operated) - Inserts coils into specified insertion schematic using product type stacks
  • Lacing - Sewing thread (lacing) into coil for reinforcement after insertion process
  • Marking - Identifying units with permanent ink or electro-etching by hand or with pad printing machine
  • Molding - Parts are molded per specifications by placing part into a molding fixture, adding molding compound and operating the molding press
  • Patching/Finishing - Applying cement to field blanks or field rings and bonding magnets to them
  • Stacking - Lamination orientation and installation into stacking fixture
  • Stripping - Using either a stripping machine or hand held stripper, operator removes insulation from mag wire
  • Sub-Assembly - Assembly of sub-components, such as, assembling a housing to a stator
  • Twisting/Tinning - Twisting mag wire from winded stack and tinning the tips of the mag wire using solder pot
  • Winding - Using winding machine, operator selects the correct bobbin size per specifications and then winds mag wire coils

Basic Qualifications:


  • High School diploma or equivalent experience
  • 2 - 3 years' experience in a similar type of manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with the use of hand tools
  • Ability to learn and assimilate new processes in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be available to work overtime as necessary to meet production schedules
