What is the purpose of the role?
We are currently seeking a Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Technician to ensure that all equipment associated with our sewage treatment works are running safely and efficiently using both proactive and reactive maintenance methods. Working within the Maintenance team you will follow robust maintenance Plan as well as getting involved in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Each day can present unique challenges whether it's removing large objects to prevent plant damage or using your expertise to diagnose a fault. You will work towards achieving the highest equipment efficiencies through routine maintenance, breakdown repair and improvement work. Working as part of a diverse team you will never be short of support whilst out in the field, based at Dorking Sewage Treatment Works. You will gain experience on a wide range of plants and equipment some of which are innovative investments providing exciting new experiences. Full training will be given for Health & Safety, technical and processes related to the plant.
This role will involve:
Working in a small multi discipline team.
Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures in order to minimize plant breakdowns.
Investigating the nature of plant failures and subsequently carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to avoid interruptions to the process.
Carrying out the repair and maintenance of electrical motor drive systems and associated control systems including Inverter drives.
Investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carry out repairs during incidents.
Providing technical advice where appropriate; making reference to up to date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
Ensuring the Health & Safety of yourself, colleagues, visitors and members of the public is excellent at all times.
Working according to good housekeeping procedures and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Demonstrating positive attitudes and behaviours. Participating in a stand-by rota following the relevant training.
We are looking for an M&E Technician / Engineer with a completed Apprenticeship, ONC/HNC, NVQ or C&G level 3 (or equivalent), in the related industry. Similar experience is essential, with a background of maintaining industrial / plant equipment. The work will require physical fitness; so you will need the ability to work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training. Due to the nature of the role a valid driving licence is essential and as the post will work across a number of sites in the region.
This role is based at Dorking Sewage Treatment Works, Surrey. We are offering a salary of up to £30,000, depending on skills and experience. Participation in a 24/7 Out of Hours Standby rota (typically 1 week in 6) will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment, for which you will receive an additional payment.
