What is the purpose of the role?
In this role, you will be effectively managing the risk posed to Thames Water's assets by companies who discharge groundwater into our sewers. You will be partly field based in order to visit sites, make assessments and take samples. And partly office based to process legal documentation, while monitoring and controlling risks from the groundwater.
Are you looking for a role which offers a lot to learn? Do you enjoy the freedom of managing your own workload? You will be working individually across Thames Water's East region and so will suit a self-motivated candidate. You will be going to site, seeing various different projects but also spending days working in the office performing desk top assessments and answering enquiries which will provide variety.
This role will involve:
Reviewing groundwater permit applications and assessing the risk it poses to our assets.
Working through relevant paperwork i.e. site plans & reports relating to sewer capacities and discharges.
Issuing pre-consent documentation to customers and then issue final permit.
Monitoring & controlling Groundwater discharges by taking meter readings of discharge & take water samples for analysis.
Maintaining regular contact with customers including site visits in which you will carry out reports and take samples.
Attending third party pollution incidents and investigate: What happened? Who did it? What can we do?
The preparation of prosecution documentation including report writing & recording evidence.
Do you have a risk management background? Have you got strong experience in auditing and analysing? We are ideally looking for candidates who are environmentally aware and have great customer facing skills. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of industrial processes and experience within Thames or another customer-driven organisation. You will be self-motivated with strong organisational skills, have good influencing skills and will ideally have, or be working towards, the HNC or equivalent in a scientific discipline. Due to the nature of the role you will need a full, UK driving licence.
This role can based at either Crossness or Beckton Sewage Treatment Works, both in East London. Please note you will be required to drive to different locations so a full driving licence is therefore essential. We are offering a salary starting from £28,985, depending on skills and experience. Our excellent salary package includes a car allowance, competitive contributory pension and a wider benefits scheme which includes an annual pay review, child care vouchers, season ticket loans and loyalty awards for continuous service plus many more.
