What is the purpose of the role?
The role of the Maintenance Technician is to perform a range of assigned front line activities including testing, routine checks, maintenance and problem solving to ensure that services are delivered to time, cost and quality standards. In some cases, this may include planned and preventative maintenance of equipment to support the operation of the plant.
Our Technicians and Engineers are a vital component in what we do at Thames Water. They are key figures on any site and help with the day to day operating of our Treatment plants. Each day can present its own challenges and you will work towards achieving the highest equipment efficiencies through routine maintenance, breakdown repair and improvement work.
Accurately reporting faults and recording work and asset information to improve business performance using the handheld device.
Highlighting and reporting hazards, near misses and incidents; making the area safe with a minimum of 2 hazards reported per technician per month, escalating any issues to your line manager as soon as possible.
Making sure the work area and tasks have a risk assessment including a SHE 5 completed for all job activities.
Carrying out driver training as requested by line management and fleet, immediately reporting vehicle damage and incidents in order to avoid any issues.
Having an awareness of budget position and how unplanned events can impact on the budget (e.g. tanker/plant/pump hire, etc.)
Providing technical assistance and guidance to new starters and technical trainees as well as existing colleagues.
Attending all team meetings, engaging with safety briefings and company communications, identifying issues and raising constructive feedback with the management team, with suggestions for improvements
Typical working hours will be Monday to Friday working 38 hours a week.
You will also be required to assist on a standby shift rota working 1 in 4 weekends for which there will be a shift premium attached.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a relevant industrial processing/engineering environment. You will have basic literacy and numeracy skills and must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures including Confined Space Entry. Some computer data input /enquiry experience is desirable. Due to the nature of the role a full, valid UK driving licence is required.
This role is based at Oxford Sewage Treatment Works. We are offering a salary of £18,000, depending on skills and experience. There is a pay progression scheme associated with this role. This salary increases to £19,550 after all you internal training has been completed and then £20,900 after completion of your QCF qualification. Participation in a 24/7 Out of Hours Standby rota (typically 1 week in 6) will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment, for which you will receive an additional payments and overtime if required.
