What is the purpose of the role?

Reporting directly to the Area Operations Manager, you will lead, support and develop a team of technicians to safely and efficiently operate and maintain our Water Production assets in the South & South West London area. You will have controller of premises responsibility for the 11 water production sites including borehole and water treatment works. You will lead your team to ensure that we meet our regulatory performance measures and performance commitments including asset health, customer service and drinking water quality.

What makes this role unique?

We are looking for strong leadership credentials and relevant process or manufacturing experience for this exciting front line management role in water production. Maximising the output and availability of sites under your control will play a key part in delivering our overall water production energy budget by reducing the requirement for transfer of large volumes of treated water across London. This combined with maintaining the resilience of this part of our network to high demand and plant failure makes this a unique and critical role.

What will this role involve?

The successful candidate will be performance managing a team of technicians, ensuring the safe delivery of our monthly planned operational and maintenance workload. As controller of premises you will ensure statutory obligations are met at each of our sites and support with planning and delivery of capital projects. You will enhance existing relationships with the water networks and optimisation teams and deliver excellent customer satisfaction from every customer contact. Our successful performance managers are organised and efficient, great people managers and can work under pressure/time constraints. No one day is the same in the life of a performance manager at Thames Water and you must be able to effectively delegate and prioritise tasks with your team. You will be responsible for the development of your team members, and must ensure that they are consistently performing against both internal and external targets. You will be expected to prepare reports and presentations for line managers and key stakeholders as required, so a keen eye for detail and a good level of confidence is a must to be a successful candidate in this role.

What are we looking for?

The ability to lead and develop people within a team.

Relevant Health & Safety qualifications and experience of applying these in an operational environment.

Previous experience managing a team or coordinating team activity.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Excellent organisational skills, keen eye for detail and demonstrable ability of managing workload under pressure.

Previous industry experience would be beneficial.

Clean water process knowledge would be advantageous.

Someone who is confident in their ability to present key findings and liaise with managers of all levels.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is based at Orpington Pumping Station and Depot, Kent. We are offering a salary of up to £43,000, depending on skills and experience.
