  • The team is accountable for category management of Professional Services globally for BHP Billiton including the sub-categories of consulting, accounting, tax, assurance, financial services and legal services

Category Management
  • Leads the development of innovative, value-driven, multi-year category strategies by leveraging deep category knowledge, market intelligence, awareness of technology developments, emerging markets awareness and a detailed understanding of business needs
  • Coordinates gathering of market intelligence and analysis by the team as input into category strategies
  • Develops strong relationships with internal business leaders and key stakeholders to understand business objectives
  • Monitors application of Supply category management processes within the team to support compliance with Group Level Documents (GLD), SOX and other requirements

Sourcing Strategy and Planning
  • Leads the development of a sourcing plan aligned with category strategies
  • Works collaboratively with stakeholders and challenges appropriately to develop sourcing strategies and supply solutions that balance stakeholder needs, productivity, commercial value and risk
  • Builds compelling cases for change and influences stakeholders and market to implement change
  • Ensures that the team implements sourcing projects on-time and in accordance with the sourcing plan
  • Leads adoption of innovative sourcing techniques within the team

Tender and Contract Management
  • Executes strategic sourcing projects and provides coaching and guidance to Specialists on sourcing projects and processes
  • Leads negotiations
  • Prepares market engagement strategies, negotiation plans and contract award recommendations
  • Ensures capture of productivity improvements supporting measurement of team performance

Supplier Management
  • Executes a robust supplier relationship management regime
  • Develops relationships with key suppliers and works with the business to design performance measures and track and manage performance for selected key suppliers against contract and business requirements

Develop and Lead
  • Encourages the team to suggest improvements in category management processes and leads the implementation of initiatives
  • Leads, coaches and mentors team members to ensure delivery against performance targets including driving progress of sourcing projects and achievement of productivity targets
  • Develops and motivates other team members
  • Assists the development of budgets and business plans

  • Post-secondary degree
  • Post graduate degree preferred (MBA, Masters or PhD)

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience preferably in category management, strategic sourcing, consulting, finance or legal
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage a team (cross functional)
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Experience developing category strategy documents and business cases
  • Competency (commercial, technical) in end-to-end category management
  • Deep understanding of sourcing techniques and strategies and knowledge of innovative sourcing methodologies such as TCO, "clean-sheeting", e-auctions
  • Strong negotiation experience
  • Ability to analyse complex business processes, risk factors and control systems
  • Risk management skills
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Bi-lingual preferred
