Job Description

GDIT's Health and Civilian Solutions Division is searching for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to support the architecture, design, and development of innovative and cost effective technical solutions that meet and exceed customer requirements. As an experienced systems engineer with a broad knowledge on integration, software development, cloud infrastructure, and other disciplines, the Sr. Principal Systems Engineer c ollaborates closely with Solutions Architects working in a small team environment to create, validate, and fine-tune the technical solutions in a controlled sandbox environment (the Innovation Lab) that can also be used in demonstrations for customers and other stakeholders. These solutions cover a broad spectrum of IT technologies including:

  • Data Management and Analytics

  • Contact Center Solutions

  • IT Infrastructure

  • Software Engineering

  • Supply Chain Management

  • Cloud Solutions

  • Cyber Security

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide proof of concept for new solutions and fine tune existing solutions that are being upgraded

  • Develop and conduct tests to ensure the systems meet documented user requirements and function as planned. This includes providing an in-depth analysis that identifies defects; vulnerabilities; and incompatibilities with other systems' hardware and software.

  • Participate in customer meetings and control the demonstration of proposed technical solutions

  • Excellent ability to organize information; manage tasks and use available tools to effectively contribute to an organization

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of software development industry concepts; tools; and techniques
Knowledge of project management concepts; tools; and techniques and comfortable working within the parameters of a project methodology


All candidates must have a bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline or equivalent work experience.


To be considered for this role; candidates must have 10+ years of increasing responsibility in a systems engineering environment. This includes advanced knowledge of systems engineering principles; methods; and techniques as well as knowledge of associated hardware; software; and equipment. Candidates should have strong knowledge of internetworking; virtualization; cloud computing (AWS; MS Azure; etc.); Windows and Linux operating systems and enterprise software integration. Candidates must also have strong oral and written communication skills; being comfortable in presenting to senior leaders and providing written technical documentation that is easily understood by non-technical reviewers. Demonstrated success in building meaningful and productive relationships with managers; peers; and customers is also required.
