Job Description

Analyzes, administers, and maintains telecommunications systems.

1. Evaluates, analyzes, administers and maintains voice, data and wireless communications systems.

2. Reads and interprets circuit diagrams and electrical schematics.

3. Prepares detailed specifications and flowcharts for implementation of new internal systems or modifications to vendor systems.

4. Coordinates installation of equipment.

5. May Install, test, adjust and troubleshoot equipment as necessary.

6. Monitors the operations of telecommunications systems and services of vendors.

7. Provides end-user training of telecommunications features and functionality.

8. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced Analysts and Technicians.

9. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.

10. Participates in special projects as required.

Program-specific responsibilities: Performs maintenance on Avaya Systems knowledge to include the G430/450's, S8300's, Modular Messaging , Message Application Servers, and Message Storage Servers. Maintenance consists of trouble shooting, diagnosing and repairing user reported troubles, problems identified by the switch during the performance of nightly routines and performing monthly Preventative Maintenance Inspections IAW OEM guidelines. Perform telephone moves, adds, and change (MAC) work when identified by users. This includes software programming within the switch consisting of but not limited to adding new features, stations, network groups to include T-1s, associated routing of those T-1s, and Automated Call Distribution (ACD) groups. Within the voice mail system this consists of adding new voice mail boxes, automated attendants, and changing existing automated attendants. Deleting within software existing stations, mailboxes, automated attendants, etc. Technician must have the technical knowledge to perform switch programming within Avaya Communication Manager architecture. Participate in site technical meetings related to the telephone switch to include guidance on use, adaptation, configuration and switch enhancements. Provide user training on telephone instruments, telephone features and the Modular Messaging voice mail systems.

Knowledge of Cisco VoIP systems is also desirable.


Bachelors Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training or work experience.

Avaya certification(s) desired: • ACIS (Avaya Certified Implementation Specialist) for Avaya Aura Communication • Avaya Aura Messaging. High school graduate with a minimum of 5 years hands on experience maintaining Modular Messaging, S8X00 series product lines. Knowledgeable with VoIP and the application of VoIP within the S8X00 series platform.


5-8 years of related telecommunications experience.

Applicant must be able to obtain and retain an FAA PIV badge (Mandatory). Applicant must be able to read, write and speak English. Job may require selected applicant(s) to provide support to multiple geographically separated facilities in/around the Washington DC metro area; applicant must be able to walk, possess valid drivers license/insurance, climb stairs up and down, crawl under desks and perform other manual activities without issue or impediment. Must be able to lift 45 pounds and stand/walk for long periods of time.
