Job Description

Engineer for Aviation: Analysis and S/w skills

GDIT is currently seeking Electrical and Computer Engineers for its civil aviation programs. Positions require BS/MS Electrical/Electronics Engineering or BS/MS Computer Engineering.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidates will work as part of GDIT's civil aviation programs supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Joint DOD/FAA aviation projects. As part of that team, the candidate will work on GPS/Satellite Navigation projects participating in analysis and testing. Position will work with avionics and systems data assessing functions and performance of GPS, and GPS avionics and complex aviation computer systems. Position involves analytical skills are part of processing and analyzing data, participating in a team that modifies software test tools, and conducting testing. Duties include working in a mostly Linux environment and modifying software and querying database objects (SQL). Activities include test and evaluation (T&E) of satellite navigation systems.

Candidate must have good verbal and written communication skills, necessary for technical reports, work well in both group and with individual assignments. Full-time positions are located at the FAA's William J. Hughes Technical Center in Southern New Jersey, at the Atlantic City International Airport. Duties will include, but not limited to:Researches, designs, develops and/or modifies enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software.

  1. Identify requirements, Plan and execute test and analysis of avionics and GPS aviation system data.

  2. Assists in the software design and coding.

  3. Analyze and assess system architectures, functional and system performance requirements.

  4. Support development of prototypes and eventually grow into developing data analysis/visualization tools to meet specifications

  5. Participates in the coding, testing, and debugging of new software or enhancing existing software. Participates in the analysis and development of test plans.

  6. Prepare specifications and technical performance reports.

  7. Participates in systems modeling, simulation and analysis.

  8. Troubleshoots problems and provides customer support for application issues.

  9. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.


Bachelor's or Masters degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Computer Engineering.

Preferred/Optional SKILLS: ANY of the following (not firm job requirements):

• Multiple software programming languages:

C++, Java, JavaScript, HTML/HTML5

• Familiarity with GPS, Avionics, GPS Simulators

• Developing software or hardware interfaces

• Exposure to processing real-time data, or large volumes of data
