Job Description

With minimal supervision, the Systems Engineer supports the program and their associated software, hardware, configurations, and architectures as listed as part of the Specialized Automated Mission Suite (SAMS). Works as a member of a diverse engineering team to ensure all operating mission nodes (operations centers, airborne weapon systems, ground teams, and other) can interoperate and execute synchronized mission activities via their mission systems, connected through various mission networks. Ensures systems are interoperable and networked within and external to the program , especially between AF and SOF systems. Integrates conventional, special operations, and other systems and applications into light, lean, integrated, interoperable, and scalable packages that are used in-garrison and deployed. Provides higher order systems and IT engineering, analysis, and baseline systems development for the program employment. Develops and tests computer and other device configurations and builds, and develops systems and systems architectures using NIST and DISA STIG standards. Provides security analysis, the program support training, and develops the program standards for Government approval. Provides Tier II and Tier III support to the Operations team for all SAMS software and hardware suites, including SAMS-C2 Clients and Servers, SAMS Enhanced Situational Awareness (SAMS-ESA), and SAMS Electronic Flight Bag (SAMS-EFB), SAMS Tactical Ground Gateway Radio Suite (SAMS-TGGRS), and other designated the program systems. Works with engineering staff in all functional areas to ensure full support and integration of all SAMS, AFSOF unique components, and government systems of record, to include: TBMCS UL/FL, GCCS-J/AF, TACLAN, SAMS-C2 Server, SAMS-C2 Client, SAMS-TGGRS, SAMS-EFB, and SAMS-ESA client builds. Leads small to moderate sized projects, and ensures deliverables and timelines are met in accordance with the project plan. Mentors systems administration staff on engineering principles and support for newly engineered SAMS systems. Provides training to government and technical staff on SAMS systems. Assists the the program team to ensure all contractual obligations and objectives are met in accordance with the Statement of Work and functional area.

1. Performs complex systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering.

2. Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.

3. Participates in the upgrading of operating systems and design of systems enhancements.

4. Provides input for documentation on new or existing systems.

5. Develops and conducts tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements.

6. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems.

7. Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.

8. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.

9. May provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers.

10. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

11. Participates in special projects as assigned.


Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.

CompTIA Security-Plus CE certification is required.

RHCSA or better is highly desired.

MCSA: Windows 7 or better is highly desired.


5-8 years of experience.

Demonstrated expertise with VMWare and its related components, or similar COTS or open source products.

Exceptional oral and written communication skills is required.

Troubleshooting skills, a desire to learn, and willingness to take on responsibilities is required.

Experience in the installation, configuration and security of multiple desktop and server operating systems

Experience with Windows 2008/2012 Server, Linux, Red Hat, Veeam Backup & Replication, Splunk

Experience maintaining, configuring, troubleshooting NetApp and other SAN/NAS storage appliances

Experience in a supporting IAVA remediation, desktop/server support

Experience applying DISA STIG standards.

Experience with DoD Configuration Management, Information Assurance and Systems Lifecycle Management processes

5-8 years of related systems engineering experience.

Lift able to lift over 35 LBS #DPOST #CJPOST
