Job Description

GDIT provides 24x7x365 Network and Security Operations services to our Government Customer through our converged NOC/SOC center. This NOC/SOC provides a high level of system operations support, acting as the Tier 1 provider for event analysis, incident monitoring, reporting, and resolution, as well as assisting problem management activities. Candidates for this position will provide support as an engineer within the NOC/SOC, located in Warrenton, VA.

Candidates must possess an engineering/analysis mindset, be ready to provide services across a diverse Enterprise environment, and extend beyond standard issue monitoring and reporting. This includes first tier analysis, resolution where possible, enhanced notifications, and special projects including several Centers of Excellence. Candidates must have excellent customer service skills, and good verbal and written communications skills. Security+ certification is a plus.

NOC/SOC Engineer position is shift work - shifts will be Mids (Nights), NOC/SOC Engineer shifts may also include 1 weekend day, and 4x10 hours shift times.

Desired Skills and Job Duties - Include but may not be limited to:

  • 0-1 year of related Computer Operations experience.

  • Experience in technologies (1 or more) such as: Windows and Linux server platforms, CISCO networking devices, SIEM tools, monitoring tools, enterprise system appliances, ITSM tools, LDAP, TCP/IP and DNS

  • Monitor, respond, and analyze incoming system events across a multitude of Enterprise level monitoring platforms.

  • Provide an IT background in System Administration or Networking disciplines that permit a high level of capability in Tier 1 resolution and engineering analysis of incidents.

  • Provide analysis data and potential resolutions while working with Tier II and Tier III support on Enterprise issues, spanning network, hardware, software, systems administration, security, etc.

  • Understands and implements Escalation Plans according to incident type and defined thresholds

  • Understand several aspects of a complex Enterprise IT environment

  • Ability to assist in the development and maintenance of Process and Procedure Documentation

  • Support SOC staff as needed / ability to assist and work within a converged environment.

  • Provide support to special projects/Centers of Excellence (COEs)

  • Assist engineering teams in implementation and customization of various monitoring tools and platforms to ensure maximum efficiency design for the specific environment.

  • Participates in special projects as assigned/required

Desired / Additional Skills:

  • Security+ certification

  • Working Knowledge and Experience of more of the following within an Enterprise IT Environment:

    • Windows and Linux Server Systems Administration

    • Amazon Web Services Console

    • AlienVault

    • Cherwell

    • Nessus

    • Traverse

  • Experience working in or leading special projects

  • Experience with large Federal Customers is a plus

  • Advanced Verbal and Written Communications skills including technical writing

  • Tech Savvy - Must enjoy and adapt to new technologies, excited to learn new and emerging tech, etc.


Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
