Research Computing Manager - Bedfordshire|
This organisation is a world-renowned, exclusively postgraduate University specialising in Creating Leaders in Technology and Management. Information Services is valued as a Professional Service Unit with a remit to provide a full service of digital IT systems and information management services providing high performance and high availability computing capability and support to meet the demands of the Research, Education and Administration user bases.
The Research Computing team is a small group of IT specialists, who manage and support advanced, high performance computing (HPC) facilities used primarily for engineering and scientific research and development.
Working with the Head of IT Infrastructure, the Research Computing Manager will be responsible for creating and delivering the HPC strategy, ensuring that the advanced research computing facilities and resources are developed, managed, operated and supported efficiently, ensuring the delivery of a high quality, high availability service to meet the evolving HPC needs of the organisation.
You will be educated to degree level, preferably with a Computer Science or related degree (or equivalent qualification) with demonstrable experience of managing and maintaining High Performance Computing environments as well as their user base. You will most likely have a strong Linux sys admin background with experience of working with Simulation Software Applications, Scheduling Software such as PBS Pro, Cluster computing and Parallel Storage. Candidates must be service orientated and will be familiar with KPI dashboards.
You will possess excellent analytical skills to determine requirements for comprehensive and reliable solutions, as well as first class verbal and written communication/presentation skills. The ability to identify new use cases for HPC and a passion to evangelise the benefits throughout a user community would be an advantage. In addition you must be a people person with an outgoing and professional personality.
This role will be paying in the region of £45-50,000 + Benefits.
