Bristol Water plc supplies water to over 1.1 million people and businesses in an area of almost 2,400 square kilometres centred on Bristol. We take water from nearly 70 different sources which range from reservoirs, rivers, springs, wells and boreholes. Our largest reservoir is Chew Valley Lake which can hold 20,460 million litres of water.
Blagdon Lake is also one of ours. The raw water is treated at one of our sixteen treatment works, the biggest of which can deliver 165 million litres a day. And all of it has to meet the most rigorous water quality standards in the world.
We use some of the latest technology and sophisticated IT systems, to ensure our complex network which includes 164 pumping stations and over 6600 kms of pipe runs smoothly 24 hours a day.
Delivering water from source to tap is a mammoth feat of engineering and a team effort on behalf of over 500 employees at Bristol Water plc.
