Bunge (www.bunge.comReporting to the Chief Operating Engineer, this position is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Plant’s Boilers and related equipment. The Boiler House is classified as a 1st Class Plant and operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Normal hours of work will be on a Monday to Friday 0700 to 15:30 basis unless when providing vacation relief coverage on a rotating 12 hour shift basis. Shift schedules may change on a frequent basis as required by the business. The position of Operating Engineer – II is a unionized (United Food and Commercial Workers Union - Local 175) hourly paid position. Inspects, tests and performs minor maintenance on boilers and associated equipment as well as fire protection equipment. The position requires a conscientious person in the areas of operational procedures, quality control & testing, good manufacturing practices (GMP), reporting, safety & housekeeping. The area of responsibility involves boiler operations which include: Water treatment Five water tube boilers complete with economizers Steam distribution systems and condensate collection systems Compressed air system which includes air compressors, air dryers and receivers All fire protection systems including the main plant fire panels, north property fire panel, the diesel fire pump house and all sprinkler standpipes as well as the emergency generator system This position is also responsible for answering their phone for after-hours communications and emergency purposes; and administering first aid for all personnel on site. Participate in various safety related and technical training. Work Hours: 40 hours/week. Must be able to work overtime as required. The Company reserves the right to alter the starting and quitting times as well as the working schedules for the efficient operation of the business. Skill/Experience Requirements: This position requires a 2nd Class Power (Operating) Engineers Certificate of Ontario. This position requires the incumbent to possess a current and valid driver's license in the province of Ontario (Class G or equivalent). Knowledge of Food Safety Programs (HACCP and GMP) is an asset. Prior experience as a 2nd Class Operating Engineer in an industrial setting - 2 to 5 years. Able to use a PA system to make clear Plantwide announcements. Able to communicate with colleagues and provide a safe working mentality on the job. Experience installing, maintaining and troubleshooting piping systems such as remove and replace worn components, do general maintenance work and work on plant shut-downs. Experience in the following area: Preventative Maintenance and hand tools. Use testing equipment to check systems for leaks. Knowledge of Predictive Maintenance techniques and practices is an asset. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to climb and work on ladders. Ability to work at height. Able to work in confined spaces that have been correctly permitted and monitored for vessel entry. Must be able to walk, stand, stoop or kneel for extended periods of time. Ability to wear standard required PPE as required: safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hat. Ability to wear specialized PPE as required: fall arrest harness and lanyard, respirator.
