Controller for Public Projects

Our client, a well-established and constantly growing company, which has specialized in the construction field as a general contractor for more than 43 years and whose head office is in Montreal, is currently looking for a Controller for public projects.

Reporting directly to the Finance Director and the Executive Vice-President and General Manager, Public Works, the responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Prepare and analyze the financial statements of the operating unit
  • Monitor the cash flow of the operating unit's projects
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual budgets of the operating unit
  • Ensure the supervision of the invoicing and collection process
  • Participate in special projects, including submission files and their financial arrangement
  • Management of risks inherent in the construction industry
  • Carry out reports and analyzes (dashboard and quarterly reports)
  • For accounts payable and receivable, do invoices, breakdown costs and analyze invoices from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Open accounts, terminate contracts and issue payment receipts
  • In accounting, issue payments and checks, ensure the compliance of all accounting activities and the integrity of financial information and data
  • Ensure the company's compliance with the various regulatory contexts in place
  • Perform all other accounting tasks required for the operating unit
  • Ensure the maintenance of a harmonious working environment and climate


What the individual needs to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or any other combination of equivalent education
  • Possess or be in the process of obtaining the CPA designation an asset
  • Have a minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in the position
  • Experience in the field of construction and public works: an important asset
  • Great sense of ethics and professionalism
  • Autonomy, sense of initiative and excellent judgment
  • Relational qualities and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software and accounting software
  • Attention to detail, analytical mindset and good management of priorities
  • Be bilingual in English and French
