SAJO is a well-established and evolving company specializing in such areas as design, project management in construction, procurement and maintenance. We are currently in search of of dynamic individuals for the position of Estimator for Buildings and Public Works to join our Montreal team.



  • Receive and interpret project design plans and specifications to determine scope of work
  • Based on the proposal, plans, estimates and specifications, prepare the cost of materials, labor and equipment required for successful completion of the construction project
  • Make budgets corresponding to the quantity take-offs and their related costs
  • Review in detail the quantities calculated by identifying the inherent risks and opportunities
  • Prepare final summaries of work estimates and verify the accuracy of the estimate
  • Prepare bidding documents for subcontractors and suppliers
  • Provide advice on bidding procedures, review and analyze bids received, recommend acceptance and negotiate bids
  • Establish and maintain systems and procedures for submission, control and reporting
  • Prepare and maintain directories of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Assist in project planning and scheduling
  • Make site visits
  • Complete site insurance requests
  • Prepare cost and expense statements and forecasts, at regular intervals, for the duration of the project
  • Communicate, liaise and consult with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors and prepare economic feasibility studies on cost estimate changes and adjustments
  • Manage and coordinate construction projects and prepare progress reports

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or certificate in civil engineering technology or building estimation
  • Five (5) years and more of estimation experience
  • Excellent mastery of reading plans and specifications with experience of the site
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Have strong computer skills
  • Have good negotiation skills
  • Have the ability to manage multiple files simultaneously
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of processes and procedures
