Title: Job Type: Full time, permanent Position Description Reporting to the Branch Manager, this position is responsible for managing an on-site repair shop for the maintenance of all company owned equipment as well as the coordination of external services for repairs and maintenance of transportation, and passenger vehicle equipment in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner. This person will be expected to work with the operations team and be responsible for some driver related activities. Key Accountabilities Responsible for the supervision, organization and documentation requirements of maintenance within the Iroquois facility.. Responsible for the supervision, organization and documentation requirements of driver activities, ensure highway traffic act rules are followed, provide log book training and guidance as required. Dispatch duties are shared among the operations group. This position will require some dispatching and some shared weekend coverage of operations phone line. Safety - Plans training for mechanics, audits work areas, tracks maintenance indicators and works with mechanics on how to improve performance, Supervision of maintenance team to ensure that the transportation equipment is effectively maintained within the allocated budget Ensure good communications between the maintenance team and the drivers. Organize the shop area for efficient use of space. Develop and enhance the skills of the maintenance repair team. Create a master Preventive Maintenance schedule for all equipment allowing visibility of information to dispatch, mechanics, logistic manager and other key stakeholders. Work close with dispatch group on the communication of what needs to be repaired and scheduling of preventive maintenance Negotiate pricing with vendors for 3rd party repairs and parts. Arrange all 3rd party suppliers for road side repairs Assist in the facility maintenance and planning for location and also follow up with remote locations on maintenance for fleet for unified vision of preventive maintenance Recommend sale and/or discontinued use of vehicles and support Logistics Conduct spot checks to ensure full compliance with all legislation and policy Make recommendations for changes and improvements to drive efficiencies within the department, establish procedures for new systems or reports that are assigned Establish and organize the vehicle repair schedule. Strong emphasis on PM scheduling for group. Problem solve, determine best course of action and prepare and issue work orders Approve time sheets and vacation schedules for mechanics Determine shop equipment replacement and refurbishment needs and make appropriate purchases Enter and maintain accurate Fleet Management software and filing in accordance with MTO standards Experience & Education Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in all areas of fleet and equipment maintenance in a supervisory role A college Diploma in a related field is considered an asset. Industry knowledge of preventive maintenance best practices for overall maintenance for heavy trucks and trailers. Must have previous experience with provincial and federal legislation pertaining to all aspects of transportation and cross border shipping Previous experience with agricultural equipment is considered a definite asset Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations Knowledge of MTO rules and regulations Mechanical aptitude Computer skills including experience with MS Office and Fleet management software Ability to compare and negotiate service and parts costs Ability to read and understand all equipment maintenance manuals Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance Organizational and planning skills An ability to motivate and influence others Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills Numerical skills for calculating and estimating costs Understand the critical role that equipment maintenance has in meeting operational goals. A motor vehicle license. Class DZ/AZ is considered an asset Working Conditions Combination of well-lit climate controlled office/workshop and working outside in possibly inclement weather Physical Demands Some work requires sitting for extended periods dealing with suppliers and customers on the phone and computer administrative work. Some work requires working in vehicles, outside or possibly in cramped spaces while doing driver training and safety instruction.
