YOUR OPPORTUNITY:

Reporting to the Asset Integrity Manager, the Materials & Corrosion Engineer will be an essential source of expertise, providing professional guidance and support to advise our Operations team on the full life cycle of all fixed plant equipment.

This position is based at our Albian Oil Sands site in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:
  • Relocation to Fort McMurray, Edmonton or Calgary

    HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
  • Develop, review and communicate welding, corrosion management and materials engineering plans within the project and coordinate work efforts with other areas of the project
  • Review and approve all the material selection, welding, NDE, coating, and insulation procedures, based on national/international codes and standards and governing documents, for all piping, equipment and structural aspects for the project 
  • Review the material selection drawings based on the national and international standards and company degradation manual
  • Review the corrosion monitoring plan and thickness monitoring locations for corrosion management in each of the operating units
  • Provide engineering support and guidance while working with management, business unit teams, engineering, business development and contractor personnel for different projects and day to day issues
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise to produce the required welding and materials, and coating and cathodic protection specifications 
  • Assist in developing, monitoring and maintaining records to support on-going equipment reliability and integrity programs, including the development of welding programs and procedures
  • Work with the organization and industry to improve on, and develop, welding and weld overlay technologies for the oil sands industry 
  • Engage partners outside company such as material suppliers, component fabricators, equipment manufacturers, engineering and design firms, and service contractors to deploy solutions into current project design

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; preference in welding, materials, metallurgical or mechanical engineering
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA is required
  • Typically 10+ years of extensive experience in welding and joining of medium carbon steels, low alloys, high alloys, and wear resistant weld overlays in oil & gas or in the petrochemical industry
  • Typically 5 years senior level experience in the welding or metallurgical design of oil and gas production plants, refineries and/or chemical plants
  • A mix of “hands on” projects and operations experience, with the ability to effectively steward a significant number of complex project elements simultaneously 
  • Solid experience in corrosion affecting operating units in Oil Sands plants including Froth Treatment and Utilities
