Want a dynamic and exciting role that helps protect workers across the UK? With the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), you can.
At HSE, we work with one goal in mind – to help keep Britain’s workforce safe. We are the independent regulator for work-related health and safety in Great Britain, and our work touches virtually every sector of UK industry. Combining experts from every field, we strive to keep people and their working environments as healthy and secure as possible.
This is a varied and challenging role that offers not only a wide range of work but the chance to take on specialist training and even shape the UK’s standards and guidance on radiation protection. As a Radiation Specialist, you’ll carry out inspection work with both ionising and non-ionising radiation. Working alongside other HSE inspectors and specialists, you’ll liaise with a huge number of employers and organisations, making sure everyone adheres to national standards and analysing issues where required. You’ll also provide expert advice to support inspections and enforce the law, but also guide other departments and professional bodies towards better standards.
As this is an expert-level role which is highly specialised, you’ll need experience in radiation protection, providing advice on radiation regulations and analysing radiation risks. But just as much, it’s about having strong communication skills to influence change at any level, using your initiative to make sound judgements under pressure, and being able to work collaboratively to secure the best outcomes. You should also have a degree (or equivalent) in physical science or a related discipline, membership of the Society for Radiological Protection (or be a Registered Clinical Scientist), and hold a full UK driving license. Please also bear in mind that this role involves short periods working from home.
The role is an excellent opportunity to build your skills and experience across the board and take advantage of exceptional specialist training. Find out more about the role or apply today.
Closing date for application is 27th October
