At WSP : Permanent - Full Time Lead and manage the delivery of the mechanical design in single and multi-disciplinary projects from preliminary design through construction documents and contract administration phases. Be the Engineer of Record for mechanical systems for institutional, commercial, healthcare, light industrial, public and private facilities projects. Manage the project fees and deliverables in order to meet financial targets and schedule. Supervise the work of Engineers, Designers and CAD Technicians appointed to the projects. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff. Positively develop staff as demonstrated by their ability to take on more complex technical challenges. Undertake Peer Reviews for quality control and quality assurance. Review and complete design calculations and construction documents in accordance with applicable Codes, Standards and Regulations. Complete understanding of building mechanical engineering requirement, Ontario Building Code (OBC), ASHRAE, ASPE, NFPA, and CSA standards for building and site design. Provide detail design engineering for drawings and specifications for mechanical design in Plumbing, Sanitary System, Storm Water System, Natural Gas Piping, Fire Protection and Sprinkler systems, HVAC, and hydronic piping. Manage and perform other related tasks that will help to successfully complete the delivery and handover of projects. Participate in knowledge sharing with Peers and in the development of design standards and specifications. Develop and maintain knowledge of applicable codes, standards and design software. Establish and maintain relationships with Clients in order to define their needs, explain technical information, concepts or study results. Prepare Engineering Fee Proposals, Project Estimates, Design Reports and other technical documents as required. Thorough knowledge of Design/Build (DB) or Design/Build/Finance/Maintenance (DBFM) type projects to lead healthcare projects from pursuit to construction. Other duties as assigned/required. Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering. Registered P.Eng. with PEO. Minimum 15 years of experience designing mechanical systems for healthcare, commercial, and institutional projects including but not limited to: Sanitary, Storm, Potable Water, hydronic heating and cooling, hydronic snow melting and infloor heating, natural gas piping, compressed air, various sprinkler systems, clean agent fire suppression system, and familiarity with BAS architecture from unit level to network. Experience with utility companies, authorities having jurisdiction, applicable codes and standards such as OBC, NFPA, CSA, and ASHRAE. Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skill with team members and other disciplines. Detail oriented, organized, hard worker, and team player. Strong Project Management skills, PMP is a plus. LEED AP certification considered an asset. Familiarity with software used for mechanical engineering such as HAP/Tracer, duct and pipe sizing, and equipment selection.
