The Opportunity The Software Developer is responsible for developing and maintaining Weather Data Service APIs for all Pelmorex platforms (including The Weather Network/MeteoMedia Web and Apps). They will work on systems that capture, transform and make available meteorological-related data at mass volumes to service consuming applications and consumers of meteorological data. The data must have high availability, fast response times and high scalability to scale to consumer volumes. In this position, the successful candidate works with other technology and business units to help define functional specifications for infrastructure related applications; implements and maintains various applications as part of an iterative, agile development process; and writes clean code. The Software Developer will participate in requirements analysis and help design, implement, integrate, test, document and deploy backend related systems. The developer will also provide professional technical support to new and existing applications, and will be well-versed in SDLC and building robust, high-performance, high volume systems. What’s the Day to Day Look Like: Conceptualize, design, document, develop and implement high quality, high availability, high scalability, high performance Go/C#/Server Scripting based software solutions pertaining to Backend and Middleware systems as per project road map and requests initiated by business units or the Technology departments. Work within an Agile software development process. Build products to run through a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipeline Work with Technology teams to produce effort estimates on the various work required. Will also execute work based on sprint priorities. Work with cross-functional teams to ensure all systems function as intended and without impediment to existing products or processes. This includes the development and/or integration of monitoring systems. Use knowledge of databases and database technology to create applications which are distributed, Client/Server, multi-tier, highly scalable and highly available, servicing high volumes of data. Knowledge of caching methodologies to facilitate high demand and servicing of high volumes of data. Perform unit testing and development integration testing, and work closely with QA team to address defects as they arise to ensure production of high quality software. Architect designs for reuse, scalability, flexibility and customizability. Work with Technology teams to continuously analyze in-house software systems, identify weaknesses and propose changes for improvement. Provide support to our operational teams for the relevant production systems. Develop data visualization utilities. Roles, responsibilities and duties may evolve and change over time. What we’ll expect from You... University degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. Minimum 5 years of experience in enterprise software development. Strong experience developing production applications in Object Oriented languages such as Java and C#. Professional experience with Go is an asset. Strong scripting experience in the following: Python, Perl, Bash, Javascript. Strong experience developing production applications within a Linux, Windows, and UNIX environments. Strong XML experience in the following areas: XSD Schemas, XSLT Transformations. Strong experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices. Advocate of Test Driven Development (TDD). Experience building and consuming web services utilizing REST and SOAP protocols. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases. Experience with multi-tier and distributed systems architecture. Experience in building high availability and high scalability systems servicing large volumes of data. Experience with Cloud Platforms including AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.
